Hausa Wikimedia Foundation [Hausa Wikimedians UserGroup: CAC/IT/192786] is a Nigerian-based registered non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Wikimedia projects, with special focus in Hausa language editions. It's official affiliate of a global nonprofit Wikimedia Foundation Inc since 2019. The organization organizes workshops and trainings to encourage and educate Hausa-speaking users and communities on the importance of open source, knowledge sharing, access to knowledge and utilization of Wikimedia educational projects. The organization's Board of Trustees oversees its operation and steer its long-term strategic direction.

What we do...

CORE PROJECTS

We organize events and strategic programs throughout the year aimed at increasing participation to Wikimedia Projects and deepening understanding of free knowledge and open source culture.

MEDIA AND TRAININGS

We host workshops to train and retrain both existing and new editors of various experience. We also organize media enagemment for enlightment and promotion of Wikimedia movement.

CONTESTS AND CAMPAIGNS

We participate and coordinate participation to various local and international contests within Wikimedia movement.

Our Vision Statement

Our overall vision is to promote access to — and drive people to writing, curation and development of — Wikimedia educational contents and dissemination of free knowledge, with special focus on the Hausa Language editions; engage and equip volunteers with necessary skills and resources to develop the contents under a free license and also share the contents freely with others. We also develop and implement long-term strategies for participation and community resilience.

Our Mission Statement

In pursuit of our vision, Hausa Wikimedia organizes various general outreach campaigns, training workshops and contests which collectively brought considerable success to the Wikipedia project and revived the dormant community in the past 5 years beginning with the successful maiden Northern Nigeria Outreach Project in 2018 that brought unprecedented awareness to Wikimedia projects in the region and energized volunteers to work on the projects with special focus on the Hausa editions.
